The London Wetland Centre - Barnes
Queen Elizabeth's Walk, London SW13 9WT
12-10-2007
The London Wetland Centre in Barnes is one of our favourite places to go in the holidays. The children can learn all about the wildlife and look at the birds in the observatory. The adventure playground is well worth a visit too. There’s a maze of child-sized burrows, a wall made of boulders to climb over and a river - great fun, and feels like a little bit of the country right in the heart of London.
Whole Foods - Clapham
305-311 Lavender Hill, Clapham Junction, London SW11 1LN
12-10-2007
This is great for feeding the kids something healthy. You can get fantastic baby food there, and there's a huge choice of organic fresh fruit and veg. There's also a wide range of vegetarian food, some soya and tofu products that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. Very pricey but good for a healthy treat.
Wandsworth Common - Wandsworth
London SW18 3RT
12-10-2007
Wandsworth Common is on our doorstep and has become one of my favourite parks in London. It's very pretty with a little pond and lots of lovely flowers. The children play football there in the winter and cricket in the summer. There is a lovely child-friendly café called the Common Ground where I often go with other mums and their kids. In the summer it's great to sit there with a cup of coffee watching the children play.
Randalls Butchers - Putney
113 Wandsworth Bdge Road, London SW6 2TE
12-10-2007
Despite being vegetarian I cook meat for friends and family and where better a place to get it than from Randalls? It's a beautifully presented shop and the quality of the meat is fantastic. A leg of lamb I bought to cook for Sunday roast last weekend went down extremely well. It is pricey, but you are paying for the quality. The shop is always packed because it's one of the best butchers in London.
Lady Margaret School - Fulham
9 Parsons Green, London SW6 4UN
12-10-2007
This is one of the most oversubscribed schools in London and it's no wonder why - the school has a fantastic atmosphere, the girls all seem very happy but they work hard and achieve great results. Pupils are polite, articulate and fiercely supportive of each other. There are loads of outings and in the summer term a whole week is dedicated to trips, many of which are abroad - last year my daughter got to go to the Netherlands. It's a Church of England school and half the places are offered to families who regularly go to church. The other half are open to anyone, but the school is so oversubscribed they recently introduced a lottery system for admissions.
Candybelle It's nice to read a review from a mum. My child is actually at the French lycee and she has been accepted from sept 2011 at LM. We are delighted but a bit worried (I am French and her father is English). I have to make a decision this week and I feel like I would like to hear more about the school. I would really appreciate if you can give me more thoughts about LM. Thank you.

FulhamMum Our daughter attends LM and she is constantly stretched for her ability (she is very academic), and is happy with a lovely local group of girls. Plenty of choices for trips and sports as long as your daughter wants to get involved.

Wandsworth Museum - Wandsworth
11 Garratt Lane, London SW18 4AQ
12-10-2007
You can take the kids here for free to learn the history of Wandsworth from prehistoric times to the present day. My children have been several times, with me and with their school. You can learn about everything from a woolly rhino from Battersea's Ica Age to what it was like to live in the area during the second world war. The museum's been under threat for some time and is due to close at the end of the year. But the good news is it's been given a reprieve by a charity which plans to re-open with all the exhibits on a new site in West Hill later in 2008.
Cannons Health Club - Londres
Burr Road, London SW18 4SQ
12-10-2007
I've been a member of Cannons in Wandsworth for just over a year and I love it there. My usage is mainly of the gym which has a huge amount of equipment. The room is air conditioned, there are loads of tvs and all in all it's a very pleasant place to work out. Every time you use a machine you log in with a password and it clocks how much you've done and sends you regular emails telling you you've burned enough calories to eat 45 ice cream sundaes or lifted the equivalent of 10 Indian elephants. Very good for encouraging you to go more often! You can also book in for personal training sessions to improve your progress. There's a lovely pool which I take my kids to at the weekends - there are set times when the children are allowed in. And there are loads of different classes for the children as well as adults, everything from Pilates to yoga and water aerobics. My daughters do a dance class on a Friday evening which they really enjoy.
Cafe Boheme - Soho
13-17 Old Compton Street, London W1D 5JH
12-10-2007
This is a great place for a meal with friends. Good value for money, and always buzzing, it's in the heart of Soho and generally packed. Great food, especially the seafood, but also some good vegetarian options. I had the deep fried camembert with cranberry last time. Scrummy!
Electric Cinema - Notting Hill
191 Portobello Road, Notting Hill, London W11 2ED
12-10-2007
This is so much more than your average trip to the flicks. You can snuggle back in the huge leather chairs and instead of the usual popcorn, pig out on a tub of more substantial delights, like bangers and mash or spring rolls. They do alcohol too so you can make a night of it.
The private member's club next door is well worth a look if you ever get the chance. It's usually heaving with Notting Hill media types but the food is sublime. Highly recommended.
Imperial War Museum - Lambeth
Lambeth Road, Lambeth, London SE1 6HZ
12-10-2007
If you're interested in war and conflict, this is the museum for you. We took my son when he was studying the second world war at school, and it did help give him a better understanding of the subject. The Holocaust exhibit is particularly sobering and very well done.
