ScooterCaffe - Waterloo

132 Lower Marsh, Lambeth, London SE1 7AE

03-12-2007 (actualizado el 04-10-2009)

**I would like to add that they have just had a refurb of there basement area [which was previously not in use] and are having film nights on mondays... on a HD projector and large screen.... and FREE

Saw Blade Runner there, i hear they had/were [ i was tweeking on caffeine to pay too much attention to the conversation] having a scooter-themed season and to expect fellini and uh... other stuff.**

They have some kind of 1950s Faema coffee machine for those coffee aficionados out there. I believe they started as a scooter outlet which served their customers coffee.... Which explains all the scooters / scooter parts strewn about the place, and spark plugs behind the counter.

They also hold a monthly experimental music night which sounds quite exciting.

Andrew Hunter I need to go here. I've heard good things.

Marathon Kebab House - Westminster

87 Chalk Fm Road, London NW1 8AR

14-05-2008

“i’m not going home, i’m not paying to get into no sodding place.. i don;t care if your band is playing… i’m taking my prizzle to marathon and hangin’ out with other drunk folk who seem to be wearing over-sized novelty eyelids… AND THAT’S THAT!!”

is usually how my night in marathon begins…... with a few my indecipherable mumblings out of my wet lips…. stumbling into a bin….....

hee hee Jimmy the Snake is pretty spectacular!

Phil Chambers Who is this “jimmy the snake”?!

The Roadhouse - Manchester

8 Newton Street, Manchester, Greater Manchester M1 1HL

15-12-2007

probably my favouritestestest club night in manchester "Fuse" only £5 to get in student/ non-student ...a mixture of local djs and big names in breaks (so i am told).... has a strong following and a nice community feel about it... which is a nice change frm Sankey's.... The regular maddies are into rinsing out all that dancejuices till silly o'clock (closes at 5am..... or whenever the after partis end).

Might go back up for a visit.

Phoenix Theatre - Soho

110 Charing Cross Road, London WC2H 0JP

08-12-2007

Probably the most low-key members bar in London, get there before 11.00pm otherwise you'll probably struggle to get in... open till 4am most nights.... Nice and dark... and those lucky members have an even darker members's area!!

I hear the bar was renamed The Noel Coward Bar in 1969.....(??)

Entrance to the bar is on Phoenix Street.

Gaff Off License & Video Store - Manchester

222 Wilmslow Road, Manchester, Greater Manchester M14 6LF

08-12-2007

Every student in Manchester will know about Gaff's, some might even own the t-shirt (yes, they do actually actually exist) which, as part of the logo has booze and fags, and the less said about THAT the better ;)

Situated just across the road from the Fallowfield monster-sized student campus it's location is probably the envy of off-licenses/ convenience stores across the UK.

Trof, Northern Quarter - Manchester

8 Thomas Street, Manchester, Greater Manchester M4 1EU

08-12-2007

If I remember correctly they ahve their own brand beer and cider which weren’t too offensive… and the price was even better, probably the best value for money purchase in there… isn’t “beans on toast” £5 or something just as ridiculous? ....food is pricey… the place closes early too which is a shame seeing as they tended to have decent djs upstairs….

Brompton Cemetery - Earls Court

Fulham Road, Earl's Court, London SW10 9UG

08-12-2007

not sure about now but it definitely used to be a popular cruising spot... i've seen some most pecuilar things amonggst dem-there grave stones

Trash Palace - Leicester Square

1 Wardour Street, London W1D 6PD

08-12-2007

Up a flight of stairs next to a chinese restaurant, easily missed, although there'll often be a lil queue or a shiver of smokers outside.

Music is not toooooo terrible... although the stereotypical "cheesey nonsense" will get played. The sister-club Ghetto tends to be far better music-wise with it's dark 'n' dingy dancefloor. Trash Palace tends to be a pre-drink warm up, although saying that it can can quite busy itself on the not too insignificantly sized dance floor when the tables are cleared.

Trash Palace often get described as "poly sexual"....or with other such silly terms. Tends to be a chatty crowd.... met a few interesting characters here.

Milk & Honey - Soho

61 Poland Street, Soho, London W1F 7NU

05-12-2007

Apparently, Milk and Honey has been voted the best bar...ever. By who and by what criteria I know not.... It's one of them bars with no name over the door, you ring a door bell and it's a bit like Roger Rabbit trying to get into that bar where Jessica Rabbit is singing, and it's a bit like that in there too.....

Downstairs has table service, the booths are pocketed away from each other and has a nice cavernous feel to it.... The whole bar seems to have the whole "speak-easy" aesthetic going on.... The menus have a "Code of Conduct," one of the more humorous rules is that Gentlemen must speak via the barperson rather than approach a Lady directly, god knows if that is ironic or not, I just assumed it was....

Drinks are very pricey.

Non-members are admitted entrance before 11.00 pm.

Linus "It's a bit like Roger Rabbit trying to get into that bar where Jessica Rabbit is singing"

That is one of the best descriptions of a door policy I've ever heard!

Freud Museum - Finchley Road

20 Maresfield Gardens, Hampstead, London NW3 5SX

05-12-2007

Entrance into Freud’s gaff is charged so it’s well worth going there for a talk or when they are holding some kind of exhibition which they do quite regularly (...the one I can remember included Sarah Lucas sculpture-thing and some other contemporary stuff…)

I felt rather odd having to use Freud’s loo after drinking lots of free wine after a talk there.

Miniature “Freud Carpet” mouse mats are available from the shop!! Which made me chuckle…
