Mumbai - Bermondsey
37 Dockhead, Shad Thames, London SE1 2BS
15-10-2009
Good North Indian cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere. The service at Mumbai is excellent and the prices are easy on the purse.
The baltis are especially good albeit a bit more spicy than the norm. Poppadums and chutneys are wonderfully done and better than most I've had in London.
Madras - Lewisham
244A Lewisham High Street, Lewisham, London SE13 6JU
15-10-2009
lovely South Indian cuisine, giant Dosas, idlis and wonderful chutneys. The staff is very friendly and for those of you who are wheat and gluten free, this is a great place to go as most things on the menu you can have as a lot of S. Indian cuisine is made from rice and chickpea flour.
They also deliver and have take away. Highly recommended for something different. You may never go back to Northern Indian cuisine again! x
Cotto - Lambeth
89 Westminster Bridge Road, Lambeth, London SE1 7HR
15-10-2009
So I was on the hunt for homemade wheat free/gluten free pizza and came across Cotto. It's not far from my place on the train so we headed out there for dinner.
We were greeted by the owner with a giant basket of freshly baked bread, which I turned down because of my wheat allergy and the owner said, "You must tell me right away, I will take care of you!" and he had some fresh and hot gluten-free bread brought to me right away. What a treat!!!!
This is a fantastic Italian family owned establishment with all the charm and fantastic service that you find in Italy. And the food! Superb!
My husband had the Penne Arrabiata, and I had a Gluten Free Vegetarian Pizza. Both were absolutely excellent. The veggies on the pizza were crispy and delicious, the sauce and cheese were wonderful and the crust was crispy around the edges.
The owner took the time to have about a 20 min chat with us, inquiring about my allergy and telling us that he had been Celiac for many years.
I could not fit dessert into my preggy tummy, but my husband had the mint and chocolate ice cream which was spectacular! I had a bite, and I've never had ice cream that was as light as a mousse. Brilliantly done. Not only that, but over half the desserts on the menu were gluten free. Not just the typical gluten free fare either...they had tiramisu for goodness sake!
I highly recommend this restaurant for WF and GF as well as non-allergy folk as well! It's a nice friendly laid back atmosphere, reasonably priced, and caters to those of us who are normally left out when it comes to Italian fare! Go there now! x
Food for Friends - Brighton
17-18 Prince Albert Street, Brighton BN1 1HF
03-06-2009
Food for Friends is the best vegetarian restaurant I’ve ever visited. My husband and I just celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary there and everything we had from start to finish was delightful.
We shared our main courses, Perfumed Mango, Avocado, Halloumi, and Wasabi Encrusted Cashew Nuts Salad
Wild Mushroom Rosti
Both were perfectly flavoured and prepared down to the poached egg on top of the rosti, and the marinated carrot on the side. PERFECT!
We next had a delicious cheese platter with gluten-free bread (best I’ve ever had, a cross between American corn bread and regular bread) and we finished it off with Creme Brulee with Blood Oranges and Cardomom.
Teas and coffees were also brilliant, the green tropicale being one of the most delightful teas I’ve ever tasted. At £43 all in with tip…this was a complete bargain. Some might find this pricey but it was well worth it.
Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Don’t miss an opportunity to visit this fabulous establishment!
Leon - Beddington
3 Spitalfields, 3 Crispin Place, London E1 5DW

Leon’s is a fab place to you if you need your food in a hurry but don’t want to sacrifice quality. The best part is that all the food is labelled with Wheat Free, Gluten Free, Vegetarian, Vegan, and Dairy Free icons so that you can be sure that you’re getting the right ingredients for your body. It’s such a pleasure for me to eat somewhere where I can trust I’m getting something Wheat Free.
I had the superfood salad, and it was amazing. Quinoa, Broccoli, Avocado, Sprouts, Peas, and a lemony dressing. Deeelish!
Ooze - Shepherds Bush
Westfield Shopping Complex, London W12 0AG
13-04-2009
I’ve been wanting to try this places as they have food clearly marked on the menu as gluten-free which is fantastic. I had no idea there was on in the Westfield Shopping Centre!
Wow! What a great value, we had antipasti and salads and it was fabulous and very inexpensive. I was well surprised and my taste buds were very very happy. The staff was friendly and answered all my questions about the ingredients in the food. I’m going back to try the risotto next. Stay tuned!
The only reason they didn’t get 5 stars rather than 4, is because the drinks were only so so. I had an orange juice that tasted boxed from concentrate, and my partner said the coffee was only so so, but in the scheme of things this is small potatoes compared to the rest of the great things I have to say about Ooze! Enjoy!
Indiaah Restaurant - Camberwell
59 Denmark Hill, London SE5 8RS
30-03-2009
When you next find yourself in Camberwell, stop off at this little gem on Denmark Hill. The staff is friendly, the food is great and it won’t put a burden on your budget.
Indiaah has a really nice atmosphere, well set tables and attractive decor. I’ve had quite a few of their vegetarian dishes, but the Veggie Balti is a real stand out. Mmmmm….I’m getting hungry just thinking about it! Where are my keys??
Papadoms Indian Restaurant - Whitechapel
94 Brick Lane, London E1 6RL
24-03-2009
I don’t usually like to give a place a bad review but this was the first truly bland Indian food I’ve had on Brick Lane. We had a range of dishes, mushroom baji, sag aloo, and veggie curry. All very heavily oily and not spiced particularly well. The service was OK and the staff were friendly but the food took forever to come.
To add insult to injury, my husband ended up with a spot of food poisoning, which we think was from a sauce that I didn’t have for the papadoms.
I’d recommend avoiding this one, especially with so many other great restaurants very near.
Migun Thermal Massage - Westminster
Feelgood Centre, 33-34 Chiswell Street, London EC1Y 4SF
12-03-2009
I used to frequent Migun when I was in the US. You lie down on a thermal massage bed which uses heated jade rollers to target acupressure points on the body and give you a relaxing massage.
I was excited when I heard that there was a London location, but really disappointed when I saw it was a really small room with only one bed, separated from the help desk by only a series of panels. It was hard to relax because I could hear the owner eating his crisps from the next room.
If someone opens a proper Migun in London I will be all for it. One with several beds and a nice calming atmosphere. It’s truly a revolutionary way to get a massage and it makes you feel great!
Amano Cafe - Southwark
Victor Wharf, Clink Street, London SE1 9DG
12-03-2009
Great cafe that we often go to as we live near. Fantastic reasonably priced food, wood fired pizzas for lunch from just under 4 quid.
I love the comfy chairs, the trendy but not over the top music and the staff are always super nice. They never complain about us going in and staying for 3 hours at a time. Also free 30 mins of single use wifi.
Teas and coffees are tasty and again very reasonable. It’s a gem of a find for locals in a tourist packed area.
