    Courtyard - London

The owner, James, has done a fantastic job at setting the standard for hair salons in the area. You can tell he's thought through every detail and as a result, the experience is first-class.

From the complimentary coffees (or beers!), to the excellent staff, cool interior, great value pricing and warm and friendly service, this place has got it all. I've recommended it to several friends and all of them have gone on to recommend it to others - say no more. Try it!

    Weirmarsh Farm Restaurant - Umberleigh

    What a disappointment.

The concept is great, a relaxed, family-style restuarant in a lovely building - but the actual experience was terrible for many reasons and was a real disappointment on the first night of our holiday in Millbrook Cottages nearby.

The food ranged from ‘nice’ down to ‘poor’ which on reflection we should have expected from a £25 / 5-course meal restaurant? However what really spoilt it for us was the service - or lack thereof. For example, NOT ONCE during the 2 hours we were there did the owner (who was present throughout) or either of the two waitresses who served us ask whether everything was to our liking. Not once! Not even when I was standing with the owner paying the bill at the end of the night. I found that remarkable - did he have no interest in our satisfaction?

Some of the other things that were a let down were:

    1) My wife’s sole tasted ‘fishy’ - which sole shouldn’t - unless it’s been frozen or it’s off.

    2) Waitresses seemed to be untrained - probably family members, rather than professionals. For example - a small thing - but the first waitress asked who was having the soup, and gave my wife the soup spoon, and then the second waitress who bought the food also asked who was having the soup - surely the clue was the soup spoon sitting in front of my wife?!

    3) When we arrived we were seated in a receiving room where we were offered a drink and some canapes whilst we waited for our table to be prepared. The canapes were mediocre and their presentation was basic - 6 small canapes on a 10 inch metal tray - they looked lost! LOL

    4) The only wine available by the glass was the house wine and it was not good - I drink a lot of wines, but this one gave me a headache within two glasses…

So, although some of these things are small - granted - I really objected to the fact that there seemed to be no interest from the owner or his staff in whether we had enjoyed each of the courses or our experience in general. If he had asked, maybe I wouldn’t have felt the need to post my thoughts on here.

    Giulianos Delicatessens - Richmond

A hidden gem. Tucked away off the hustle bustle of Richmond high street, Giullianos is THE best place to grab lunch in Richmond.

Run by a friendly set of friends and family, the environment is always welcoming. But service is super fast - which is great if, like me, you're popping in to grab some hot freshly-made pasta on my lunchbreak. And if you don't feel like choosing one of the pasta dishes, there are paninis galore for your consumption!

Also, if you fancy cooking at home, they have just about every italian ingredient for you to buy and take away with you.

And if you're looking to eat in, head upstairs for the quiet small dinning room.

    Love this place.

    Pincho - Twickenham

    ukjamesscott el 5 Diciembre 2007

I don't have a lot of spare time, so this won't be a long review... :)

But my wife and I stumbled across Pincho about 6 weeks ago for the first time and have since had two fantastic meals there (and have reservations for this coming Sat night!).

I can honestly say that I've been impressed with every dish I've tried so far and the service and atmosphere is spot on. If you're a fan of tapas and are looking for somewhere way above average, check out Pincho.
